Labeling technology used so far: high effort and limited effect

The Valve Inkjet marking technology used so far could no longer meet the requirements. The print image was unclean, the resolution was limited and the manual cleaning of the print heads regularly led to downtimes in production. At the same time, the potential of the temporary brand presence on the construction site remained unused. For ROMA, it was clear that a solution was sought that combines technical reliability with a high-quality, even print image and fits into the production line without any additional effort.

The Solution

MPERIA V-Series by Matthews Marking Systems

It was decided on Matthews Marking Systems. Today, four drop-on-demand inkjet printers of the MPERIA V-Series are used, which are precisely aligned with each other via a logo plate. The system is controlled by a central MPERIA 12′′ controller. Already in the planning phase of the new production line, the marking was taken into account and implemented together with the plant integrator, an important prerequisite for smooth integration.

The result is an inline mark that manages without manual intervention and works in the clock of the line. Several hundred PURO 2 boxes are produced daily, including individual marking.

The Results

V-Series: Easy marking with low maintenance

A key advantage of the V-Series is their low maintenance. Automatic flush valves prevent the ink from drying and reduce the cleaning effort to a minimum. Production interruptions are avoided, the availability of plants increases. Sascha Späth from Industrial Engineering at ROMA confirms: “The evening flushing of the print heads is a fast, uncomplicated process that can be easily integrated into everyday work.”

The precise alignment of the print heads also ensures a uniform, clean print image, a clear difference to the previous solution with loosely arranged single printers. This makes the marking not only technically reliable, but also visually high-quality.

Seamless integration: Easy connection to existing automation and control concepts

The MPERIA platform enables the central control of all printing processes. ROMA now has more than 100 print layouts, which are automatically selected depending on the order. Changeover times are eliminated, sources of error are minimized. The open system architecture allows easy connection to existing automation and control concepts as well as later scaling to other lines or locations.

This simple integration was a crucial factor for ROMA. The marking today runs fully inline, without additional operators, without separate workstations and without restricting production flow.

Effective advertising medium: More brand presence directly on the construction site

PURO 2 boxes remain visible for several weeks after installation. ROMA uses this phase specifically for brand communication. The clearly printed logo acts as a temporary but effective advertising medium directly on the construction project. Marketing manager Tobias Löhner emphasizes: “The visibility of the logo on the construction site is a strong, targeted advertising channel. This is an important component in the entire marketing concept.”

Perfect addition: Automatic labeling on the back

In addition to direct printing, ROMA relies on the MPERIA A-Series T43 for automatic labelling. On the back of each PURO-2 box, a permanently adhesive label is applied with product and traceability data. This system is also fully integrated into the MPERIA control system and convinces with low operating and maintenance costs.

Conclusion: Lots of technical advantages combined with strategic added value

By choosing Matthews Marking Systems, ROMA has not only solved a technical challenge, but has created real added value. Today, the marking is high-quality and simple, reliable and low maintenance. It integrates seamlessly into manufacturing while strengthening its brand presence where it is seen – on the construction site. The installation of further systems at the Burgau and Rostock sites underlines that the long-term benefits of the solution are convinced.
